Though not a fan of Mary of Scotland, I think a lot of her problems with her return to Scotland is that the whole time she was in France her mother who was her regent in Scotland never let her be part of her own realm hence the magnates (notable families) had no sense of loyality to her, espeically when the true nature of her marriage to the French heir was revealed. If she had had children with him and she died their son would be King of Scotland right no problem, but there was also a clause that if she died and left no heir the French king (her husband) would assume control of Scotland. Can you imagine who well that would have gone down with the peers of Scotland?Fraochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05254145463787157310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353479285769121899.post-77137176126317181602011-07-10T22:22:14.130-04:002011-07-10T22:22:14.130-04:00I really enjoyed your post. The ruins were so sad, but more evocative than the intact castles I saw. The history of the royals has always interested me - they are all so clandestined to sorrow and intrigue.Paisley Kirkpatrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06401039126457210324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353479285769121899.post-2338335070636924272011-07-10T15:59:37.280-04:002011-07-10T15:59:37.280-04:00An excellent post!An excellent post!Gerri Bowenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11517461664702276613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-353479285769121899.post-23250595206035259492011-07-10T15:55:45.829-04:002011-07-10T15:55:45.829-04:00Thanks for the post.
